Money and Music

I've often posted on the subject of money or lack thereof. But these days I'm wondering if I will be able to make enough to live a comfortable life. Gigs are scarce and money seems to go out as fast as it comes in. Even with positive attitudes and a feeling of 'there is always enough when you need it', it's hard in this society to not think about making money.

Why do we equate anything in the folk music world as something not worthy of high dollar? Don't get me wrong, there are folks that do well, very well indeed. But without the cachet of fame, it's difficult to imagine that one can survive on a folksinger's wages.

Having not dipped my feet into the waters quite yet, I'm concerned that with this attitude and belief system, I'm dooming myself to failure before I start. I'm still thinking that connections are the first step and I'm focusing on that. But eating and having a roof over your head is pretty important.

There has to be a way to exist in this world of art and music and make a living.
