So here it is, my new idea. I hope in the coming months to keep an online diary of sorts about my desire to develop a career for myself in Southern Ontario. I just got back from the OCFF and had a lot of folks giving me ideas about how I should do this.
So - I'm a folk singer, I'm a songwriter, I'm mature (57) and I'm starting a new career in a different location of Canada. My husband and I quit our jobs, sold our house and gave away or sold all of our stuff, packed the car and headed to Ontario. The desire - to start a career full time in Ontario. Also to learn and bring back to BC eventually what we learn to share with our community.
I have had a part time career as a folk singer/songwriter. I've won some local awards, been recognized in some international songwriting contests, released 5 CD's and have done some minimal touring. I love to write and I love to play and sing. Is that career worthy? That's what we're going to find out. There's no manual, no book of instructions how to do this, the business model for younger performers doesn't work for folks like me, I'm not young, or cute, or or or.....fill in the blanks.
But I have a passion, and I have the desire. So here we go.
First off, I have to say that's it's more than a little daunting not having the support group from Kelowna. It's now only me, trying to figure it out. And competing with so many folks. Where to begin?
Stay tuned....
